    ·  How can I become a Reserve Deputy?

To qualify to become a Reserve Deputy, you must:

    1. Be at least 21 years old.
    2. Be an American Citizen.
    3. Have a high school diploma or GED.
    4. Have no criminal record.
    5. Have a good driving record.
    6. Be in sound physical and mental health.
    7. Pass an oral board.
    8. Complete the Reserve Officers Training Academy.

Print out the Sheriff Reserves Application from this web site and mail it to Deputy Chief Steve Stewart, Wayne County Sheriff's Department Reserve Division, 1231 St. Antoine, Detroit, Mi. 48226. This is the ONLY address that is to be used. DO NOT USE THE ADDRESS LISTED ON THE ACTUAL APPLICATION FORM. Be sure to include all of the information that is required. You will be notified when to meet with us for a preliminary interview.

Sending an application does not automatically mean you are accepted into the academy. However, if you send an application you'll be kept on file for the next academy and notified. Dates and the frequency of Academys vary.

It's very important to include an email address on your application so we may best communicate with you, once the evaluation process begins.

If you do NOT meet all the requirements as listed above, then PLEASE do NOT submit an application. And, if you do submit an application, make sure it is COMPLETELY filled out. Partially completed applications will be immediately eliminated from consideration. If you have questions you may email Reserve Deputy Chief Steve Stewart at: sstewart@wayneco-sr.com.

    ·  What is my Commitment?

HOW MANY HOURS A MONTH MUST I HAVE TO COMMIT AND .......

All Reserve Officers are required to serve a minimum of 8 hours per month and attend all required meetings.

The Reserve Officers Training Academy is a 10 week program and meets three times a week. Days and dates may change by academy. Once you've graduated from the academy, you are required to qualify on your weapon annually and keep your CCW current.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE?

All Officers are required to provide their own department approved weapon and leather (holster, etc.) for the academy. Once you have been sworn into the division, you may have to purchase other equipment and uniforms. This may cost somewhere between $800 and $1500. We are currently accepting donations through our Reserve Officers Foundation to help defray some costs for our officers and the Reserve Division .
